Before my fiance and I moved into our home, we had the kitchen re-painted from a horrible salmon color to all white, but our countertops were still boring “wood” linoleum. We planned on one day getting granite put in, but wanted to save up plenty of money before doing so. Until now!
Luxurious countertops for $40, anyone??
Do you see that before and after?! Fab-u-lous. So how did I do it? Easy!
Here’s what you’ll need:
Countertops in need of some love
Marble adhesive (I bought 3 rolls and have about half a roll left)
Smoothing tool (we used IHOP gift cards)
Optional: Not Your Father’s Vanilla Cream Ale & gummy peach rings
First, I bought this. I saw a video on DIY marble countertops on a Friday, bought the adhesive on Amazon that next day and it was at my house on Sunday morning. Thanks, Amazon Prime! I then had my best friend/man of honor(!!), Jonathon, come over to help ’cause I’d say this definitely takes two people. We cleared off the countertops then sprayed them with Windex to make sure everything stuck on properly. Then got to work!
We cut the adhesive into smaller, not so long, pieces so they were easy to stick on and lined the pattern up as we went. If we ran into any trouble areas where we needed to re-do anything, the adhesive was easy to lift up and stick back on…which happened a lot. We smoothed out any bubbles as we laid the adhesive down. And that was it!
We’ve had them for about 2 weeks now and clean up has been the same as before, using Lysol and paper towels to wipe up any messes. We’ve also been sure to not let hot dishes sit on the countertops too long. They’re holding up great!
A super simple way to liven up your kitchen (or bathroom, coffee table, whatever) without breaking the bank. And if we end up hating it (doubtful), I can just lift it back up and it’s like it was never there. This would be a great idea if you’re renting and aren’t able to get the real deal!
