For anyone that knows me, they know that I’m a total baby when it comes to anything involving heights. I can barely stand on a chair without feeling like I’m going to fall to my death. So of course, a couple of months ago I was talking to my then boyfriend, now fiancé (!), and asked him if he would ever want to go on a hot air balloon ride. Knowing me, he said “are you sure that’s something you would want to do…?”. Well no, not really, but it seems cool!
Fast forward to June, our anniversary month. We took off a few days from work to plan a mini staycay. We booked some really cool things to do, one of them including a hot air balloon ride! Unfortunately, it got cancelled the day before due to the rain. What made it even worse was that was when he planned to propose, on the hot air balloon! So we knew we had to reschedule the ride in celebration of our engagement. Let me tell you, watching the sunrise from a hot air balloon was one of the coolest, most amazing experiences in my life!
First, we met up at a market where they then drove us to a good spot to take off. We even got to help them set up by holding the balloon open while it got filled up with air. Then we hopped in and got ready for take off!
While the pilot, Brian Rohr, guided us (safely, might I add!) above McKinney for over an hour, his crew member, Jeni, followed us around in their van and took pictures. We ended up getting over 3,600 feet into the air!
The amazing thing about the ride was that you truly don’t feel like you’re that high up in the sky. It just feels like you’re standing on the ground. It was such an odd, yet relaxing feeling.
Another thing that most people know about me…I can’t swim and I’m terrified of any kind of deep water. I threw all of my fears straight out the basket when we got to skim right over a lake! I seriously had no sense of fear at all, it was breathtaking.
The ride really was the perfect way to celebrate me and Patrick spending the rest of our lives together. Plus, how would he have gotten down on one knee?!
Joking…it was surprisingly pretty roomy in the basket! And I still got the chance to get this pretty shot with my beautiful ring, too!
Even though we never really wanted to land, once we did, we celebrated a safe and beautiful flight with champagne, mimosas, pastries, and fruit. Perfect ending to a perfect morning.
The whole experience was just so astounding and magical. I would say it’s a once in a lifetime kind of thing, but we’re totally gonna do this again! It’s a different experience every single time since you never know where the wind will take you. If you’re looking for something adventurous to do, Rohr Balloons is definitely it. We took the private flight, but they also offer group flights. Not to mention, the pilot made us feel super comfortable and relaxed. I can’t say enough about this! It’s just amazing.
