When was the last time you treated yourself to a little TLC (and I don’t mean the band)? lol. Totally just cracked myself up….Sure, everyone leads a busy life and although we don’t always have time to unwind, it’s something we all need to do every now and again. Whether your idea of winding down is going shopping, getting a little quiet time, or hanging out with friends, here are our top picks for this week’s 3 Things Thursday you should take into consideration!
1. Update your shade collection. Maybe it’s just me, but every time I’m at the store, the main section I zero in on is clothing and I fail to even give jewelry and accessories a second glance. If I do, I feel like I always ignore one huge accessory and staple we all need and love; sunglasses!
No matter where you’re headed, you need this stylish accessory in your life and you need it in time for Summer.
2. Pickup a new book. I was never a big reader until a girl friend of mine talked me into joining a book club. Nearly a year later I am loving every minute of it. For me, reading is a great way to de-stress. It also gives me the opportunity to unplug and just get lost through the pages of a new adventure. That said, here are a few favorites to help you find the perfect read.
The Coincidence of Coconut Cake by Amy E. Reichert. Based in downtown Milaukee, this love story follows struggling restaurant owner Lou, who by chance meets Al on one of the worst days of her life – not only did she catch her fiancé and his intern with half their clothes off but she also blew her opportunity to impress a popular food critic who works for the local paper. As they begin spending more and more time together, Lou and Al’s friendship eventually turns into love, until the day she discovers Al is the critic responsible for her restaurant going under. Can she overlook the past to make a future with the man she loves or is it too much to bear?
Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. Louisa Clark is happy with her small town life until she loses her job. Interview after interview, one new job after another, Louisa can’t seem to find anything decent until she’s finally out of options. When the opportunity for a private position as a Care Assistant opens up paying well over minimum wage it’s one opportunity she can’t afford to pass up, even if her patient is a total jerk.
Once an extreme sports junkie who traveled the world and made millions, Will Traynor is now confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life and is dead set on running off every care assistant; even the cute and quirky Louisa. Until he realizes she’s not there to baby him and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
What was once hate turns into an unexpected love story, but will it be a love worth living for?
Blackout: Remembering the Things I Drank to Forget by Sarah Hepola. Sarah Hepola has everything. She’s a successful writer in Manhattan who’s single and enjoying her youth, but when the sun goes down her wild side comes out. Cocktail parties, hole in the wall bars, and late night encounters, which were once things she lived for are now a distant memory when she can’t remember what she did or said the night before. Her life is slowly spiraling out of control and only she can dig herself out of the hole she has created.
Wildflower by Drew Barrymore. Wildflower is Drew Barrymore’s first memoir since the age of fourteen. In it she shares some of her most intimate moments in life; both past and present. From tearful goodbyes, to exciting adventures that have ultimately led to her finding happiness and purpose in her life today.
3. Jam out to your favorite album. Who says you have be up-to-date on every album out right now? I certainly don’t know what’s new when it comes to music and tend to get bored with what is out these days because everything gets overplayed to the point where I don’t even want to listen to great songs. Rather than reach for something new, grab an album from your past that will lift your spirits, put you in a good mood, and get you ready for whatever challenges the day may bring.
Here are just a few of my favorites!
Come Around Sundown by Kings Of Leon. Kings Of Leon was never one of my favorite bands until my cousin and aunt introduced me to them and talked me into giving them a chance. Which I’m happy I did because they are amazing and this album is kick ass, and got me through some tough times in life.
Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta. If you’re looking to let off some steam and rock out then check out this album by The Mars Volta. Definitely a blast from the past and my go-to album that I can play on repeat like no one’s business.
LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS by Thirty Seconds to Mars. Talk about judging a book by its cover. That’s exactly what I did with this band but had a change of heart and am now a huge fan. This album will have you wanting to conquer the world once you’re done listening to it.
Whatever your plans, treat yourself to something nice this week/weekend and have some fun!
